Wart Removal Treatment

WHAT is Wart Removal?

Wart removal is a specialized medical procedure aimed at eliminating warts from the skin. Warts are benign growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear on any part of the body, but are most commonly found on the hands, feet, face, and genital area. Although warts are generally harmless, they can be unsightly, uncomfortable, and contagious. Therefore, many individuals seek professional wart removal to improve their skin's appearance and prevent the spread of HPV.

Wart removal procedures can vary based on the type, size, location, and number of warts present. The treatment goal is to completely eliminate the wart while minimizing discomfort and preventing recurrence. At My Skin & Hair Refiner, we offer a range of effective wart removal treatments tailored to each patient's unique needs, ensuring safe and effective results.

Types of Warts?

  • Common Warts (Verruca Vulgaris): These warts are most commonly found on the hands and fingers. They are characterized by a rough, raised surface and may have tiny black dots (clotted blood vessels) on them. Common warts are often skin-colored or brownish.
  • Plantar Warts: Plantar warts appear on the soles of the feet. Unlike common warts, they grow inward due to the pressure from walking and standing, creating a flat appearance. Plantar warts can be painful, especially when located on weight-bearing areas of the foot. They may have a thickened, callused surface with black dots.
  • Flat Warts (Verruca Plana): Flat warts are small, smooth, and flat-topped. They often appear in large numbers and can occur on the face, neck, hands, and legs. These warts are usually pink, light brown, or yellow. Flat warts are more common in children and adolescents.
  • Filiform Warts: Filiform warts are long and narrow, often resembling a small, thread-like growth. They commonly appear on the face, around the mouth, eyes, or nose. Filiform warts are usually flesh-colored and can grow quickly.
  • Periungual Warts: These warts develop around the nails, both on the fingers and toes. Periungual warts can disrupt nail growth and cause discomfort. They often appear as rough, uneven bumps and can spread to other parts of the nail area.
  • Genital Warts: Genital warts are sexually transmitted and occur in the genital and anal regions. They can be small or large, flat or raised, and may appear as single lesions or clusters. Genital warts can be flesh-colored or have a cauliflower-like appearance. They are caused by specific strains of HPV that are sexually transmitted.
  • Mosaic Warts: Mosaic warts are a cluster of plantar warts that merge together, forming a mosaic-like pattern. They are found on the soles of the feet and can be more challenging to treat due to their extensive spread.
  • Subungual Warts: These warts grow under the nail bed of the fingers or toes. They can cause pain and discomfort, particularly if they press on the nail matrix or distort nail growth.

Treatment Process

  • Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. The extreme cold causes the wart tissue to freeze and eventually fall off. This method is commonly used for various types of warts, including common warts, plantar warts, and genital warts. It is a quick and effective procedure, often requiring multiple sessions for complete removal.
  • Electrosurgery: Electrosurgery uses an electric current to burn and remove the wart. This method is particularly useful for larger or more stubborn warts that do not respond well to other treatments. The electric current also helps to cauterize the area, reducing the risk of bleeding and infection.
  • Laser Therapy: Laser therapy utilizes a focused beam of light to target and destroy the wart tissue. This method is precise and minimizes damage to surrounding healthy skin. It is especially effective for warts in sensitive or hard-to-reach areas. Laser therapy can also be beneficial for treating multiple warts in a single session.
  • Surgical Excision: Surgical excision involves physically cutting out the wart using a scalpel. This method is typically reserved for large or resistant warts that have not responded to other treatments. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area, ensuring patient comfort during the procedure. Surgical excision provides immediate removal of the wart but may require stitches and proper post-operative care.
  • Topical Treatments: Topical treatments involve the application of medicated creams, ointments, or gels directly to the wart. These treatments often contain salicylic acid or other ingredients that help to peel away the wart tissue gradually. Topical treatments are a non-invasive option for smaller warts and can be used in combination with other methods for enhanced effectiveness.
  • Chemical Peels: Chemical peels use strong acids to remove the outer layers of the skin affected by warts. This method is effective for treating flat warts or warts located on the face. Chemical peels may require multiple applications and proper aftercare to ensure optimal results.
  • Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy involves stimulating the body’s immune system to fight off the wart-causing virus. This method can include the application of immune-boosting substances or injections of specific medications. Immunotherapy is often used for warts that are resistant to other treatments and can be combined with other removal methods.

Benefits of Scar Revision

Improved Appearance

Wart removal can significantly enhance the skin's appearance by eliminating unsightly growths. This is particularly important for warts located in visible areas, such as the face or hands, where they may affect self-esteem and confidence.

Symptom Relief

Warts can sometimes cause discomfort, pain, or itching, especially when located on weight-bearing areas like the feet. Removal of the wart alleviates these symptoms, improving overall comfort and quality of life.

Prevention of Spread

Warts are contagious and can easily spread to other parts of the body or to other people through direct contact. Professional removal reduces the risk of spreading the HPV virus and helps to protect others from infection.

Reduced Risk of Complications

Untreated warts can sometimes lead to complications, such as infection, bleeding, or growth changes. Removal of the wart eliminates these risks and promotes overall skin health.

Minimal Downtime

Many wart removal procedures are minimally invasive and require little to no downtime. Patients can typically resume their normal activities shortly after treatment, making it a convenient option for those with busy schedules.

Effective and Long Lasting Results

Professional wart removal treatments are designed to provide effective and long-lasting results. By targeting the wart and its root, these procedures reduce the likelihood of recurrence and ensure a more permanent solution.
