Mole Removal Treatment

WHAT is Mole Removal?

Mole removal is a specialized dermatological procedure designed to eliminate moles from the skin. Moles, or nevi, are common skin growths that can appear anywhere on the body. They are usually brown or black, but they can also be skin-colored or other shades. Moles vary in size and can be flat or raised. While most moles are benign and pose no health risk, some may require removal for medical or cosmetic reasons.

Sheen Clinics offers professional mole removal treatments according to each patient's unique needs. Whether a mole is causing discomfort, aesthetic concerns, or medical worries, our expert team provides safe and effective solutions to ensure the best possible outcome. Our experienced dermatologists and medical professionals use the latest technology and techniques to ensure safe and effective removal.

Types of Mole?

  • Congenital Moles: Congenital moles are present at birth and can vary in size. They are caused by a cluster of pigment cells and can range from small to large. Large congenital moles may have a higher risk of developing into melanoma, a type of skin cancer, and are often monitored closely.
  • Acquired Moles: Acquired moles develop after birth and can appear at any age. They are common and usually develop during childhood and adolescence. These moles are typically smaller than congenital moles and are often round or oval with a uniform color.
  • Atypical Moles (Dysplastic Nevi): Atypical moles are irregular in shape, color, and size. They may have uneven borders and vary in color, with shades of brown, tan, or pink. Atypical moles have a higher risk of becoming malignant and are often closely monitored or removed as a precaution.
  • Junctional Moles: Junctional moles are flat and usually dark in color. They are called “junctional” because they develop at the junction where the epidermis (outer layer of skin) meets the dermis (inner layer of skin). These moles are commonly found on the palms, soles, and genital areas.
  • Compound Moles: Compound moles are slightly raised and have a more noticeable color. They are called “compound” because they involve both the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. These moles can appear anywhere on the body and are typically benign.
  • Dermal Moles: Dermal moles are raised and may be flesh-colored or brown. They are primarily located in the dermis layer of the skin. These moles can sometimes have hair growing from them and are usually harmless.
  • Spitz Nevi: Spitz nevi are dome-shaped and may appear pink, red, or brown. They can develop rapidly and are more common in children and adolescents. While Spitz nevi are typically benign, they can sometimes resemble melanoma and may require biopsy or removal for accurate diagnosis.

Treatment Process

  • Surgical Excision: Surgical excision involves cutting out the mole along with a small margin of surrounding skin. This method is commonly used for moles suspected of being malignant or atypical. The excised tissue is usually sent for histopathological examination to rule out cancer. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and stitches may be required to close the wound.
  • Shave Excision: Shave excision is a technique where the mole is shaved off the skin’s surface using a surgical blade. This method is suitable for raised moles that are not deeply rooted. Shave excision leaves a minimal scar and is often chosen for cosmetic reasons.
  • Laser Removal: Laser removal uses a focused beam of light to break down the pigment in the mole. This method is non-invasive and is particularly effective for flat or pigmented moles. Laser removal causes minimal damage to surrounding skin and is ideal for sensitive areas like the face.
  • Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy involves freezing the mole with liquid nitrogen. The extreme cold destroys the mole tissue, causing it to fall off. This method is suitable for small, superficial moles and involves minimal discomfort. Cryotherapy is a quick procedure with minimal downtime.
  • Electrocautery: Electrocautery uses a small probe with an electric current to burn off the mole. This method is effective for smaller moles and can provide immediate results. Electrocautery is also used to stop bleeding during the removal process.

Benefits of Corn Removal

Aesthetic Improvement

Mole removal can enhance the appearance of the skin, especially if the mole is large, raised, or located in a highly visible area. Removing moles can lead to smoother, clearer skin and boost self-confidence.

Medical Safety

Removing moles that show signs of changes in size, shape, or color can prevent the potential development of skin cancer. Early detection and removal of suspicious moles are crucial in preventing malignant transformation.

Symptom Relief

Moles can sometimes cause irritation, itching, or discomfort, especially if they are in areas prone to friction, such as the waistband or undergarments. Removing these moles can provide relief from these symptoms.

Preventive Care

For individuals with a family history of skin cancer or a large number of moles, mole removal can be a preventive measure. It helps in reducing the risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers.

Minimized Scarring

Modern mole removal techniques, such as laser removal and shave excision, are designed to minimize scarring. This is particularly important for moles on the face or other visible areas.
